The Future of Food

There is a revolution going on in the farm fields and on the dinner tables of America, a revolution that is transforming the very nature of the food we eat. THE FUTURE OF FOOD offers an in-depth investigation into the disturbing truth behind the unlabeled, patented, genetically engineered foods that have quietly filled U.S. grocery store shelves for the past decade.

In Grave Danger of Falling Food

In this introductory video to Permaculture, Bill Mollison, the movements co-founder, takes the viewer through the history and developments of the movement. With startlingly laconic humour and insight he deconstructs the modern agribusiness and the ‘modern plague’ : manicured ornamental lawns. In this video he offers an antidote, which is an antidote to both our currently unsustainable practices AND our unsustainable culture. Both of these have to change, to adapt. Permanently. Somthings really growing on…..Here!

Rhubarb and no-dig beds

June.  Growth is amazing.  The children sprayed the potatoes with marestail/horsetail this week. Seedlings are up.  Planted york cabbage plants, brussel sprouts, flatleaf parsley and squash (butternut I think).  Problem with slugs eating plants already, trying seaweed powder.

Shed has arrived. Assembled in just under an hour by O’Brien’s from Galway. Looks good.

We are still meeting at 6pm every wednsday, fohera lane, Ballinamore.  Do visit the garden, you can also join, we are still open to new members.

Enjoy the sun!

Spring Loaded and ground breaking

Yes I say this literally.  We have a load of stuff to  catch up on.  To bring you up to speed, the gardeners are now meeting on Wednsdays at 5pm. Hope you can join us soon. So far we have rediscovered the circle that was made last year and have just finished planting up the first quadrant with early potatoes. Still more to plant and both red and white onions too.

It ain’t easy this particular bit.

The grass is getting long and this makes the coaping a little difficult. Ah well, we shall plough on nonetheless. Little helpers like these really make a difference. Soon we will be making the no-dig beds,  sooo much easier. More later….
